Humane Unveils AI-Powered Wearable Camera Alternative

Last Updated: January 4th, 2024 by WIRED

Humane, a startup based in San Francisco, has revealed a new wearable device called the Ai Pin that serves as an alternative to smartphones and cameras.

The Ai Pin is a small square device that can be clipped to clothing like a brooch. It contains a camera, microphone, and speakers, allowing users to take photos, make calls, and access a virtual assistant.

Some key features of the Humane Ai Pin:

  • It has a 12MP camera with 4K video support for capturing high quality images and footage. The camera is accessed by tapping the Ai Pin.

  • It uses speech recognition and gesture controls for hands-free operation. Users can give voice commands and make tapping gestures rather than needing to handle a smartphone.

  • The on-device virtual assistant provides information and can complete tasks like setting reminders, controlling smart home devices, and more.

  • The battery lasts all day with quick charging support.

  • It connects via Bluetooth to smartphones for accessing apps and services. The Ai Pin syncs captured photos and videos to the user's phone.

Humane believes the Ai Pin provides a more convenient and hands-free alternative to constantly pulling out a phone. It aims to reduce distractions and make uses more present.

The Ai Pin is available for pre-order now priced at $699 and it begins shipping in March 2024. Humane expects the device to be met with high demand given its innovative capabilities and appeal as a smartphone companion.
