The AI, powered by large language models through this partnership, is designed to study shopper behavior and suggest future purchases. This innovation extends across Walmart's website and apps, providing a more intuitive and efficient shopping experience.

The new generative AI-powered search functions, available on iOS, Android, and the company's website, allow shoppers to interact more naturally with Walmart's digital inventory. For instance, instead of searching for specific items like soda and chips, shoppers can request product recommendations for specific events like a birthday celebration or game day watch party in natural language.

This advanced algorithm is designed to highlight relevant product categories after a search, serving up a curated list of the best items, thus directly competing with similar tools like Google SGE, an AI-driven engine that integrates and analyzes data across websites, price reviews, and videos to provide an up-to-date view of products, prices, and availability for online shoppers; and Amazon’s LLM-fueled AI tool, designed to enhance customer search and recommendations with more intuitive and accurate product suggestions based on user queries and shopping behaviors)

These developments are part of Walmart's broader strategy to use AI to make shopping easier and faster, as evidenced by their various initiatives like GenAI-powered search, which uses generative AI for broader, natural language search queries on Walmart's app and website; the Chameleon Aisle, an in-store display that adjusts to customer preferences using facial recognition technology; and the AI Stylist, real-time fashion recommendations based on body type and preferences through "Smart Mirror" technology.

These features aim to personalize the shopping experience, increase efficiency, and enhance customer satisfaction.
